Background/situation analysis

“Obutonde Eco Bags” is an initiative of Sustainable Youth Development Foundation (SYDF) to combat unemployment among the youth through hands on skills training and development while protecting the environment, which is in line with SYDF’s theory of change of combating unemployment among the youth through hands on skills training and development.

Since 2015, SYDF has been implementing a number of voluntary community activities including mobilizing the youth in community cleanings, HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization, hands on skills development, community health outreaches in particular hepatitis B community sensitization, and menstrual hygiene management capacity building in schools, education uplifting in different communities like Iwemba Sub County in Bugiri District and household income generating projects like the SYDF Youth reach out poultry project. SYDF represents a community-based model that impacts on the vulnerable youth with the view of empowering them to take part in positive, progressive and sustainable development.
